In January 2019, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that there were about 13,199 people experiencing homelessness in Pennsylvania. These individuals that are struggling with homelessness often have increased feelings of isolation and loss of self-esteem, are at higher risk of drug dependency, and deal with physical or mental health problems.
A great number of our state’s homeless population is located right here in Philadelphia, and in order to reduce these statistics, prevent the consequences, and provide assistance, Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission has stepped in. This incredible organization has made it their mission since 1878 to “minister in the name of Jesus Christ to the spiritual and practical needs of homeless and disadvantaged people in the Philadelphia area.” They do this by providing three meals a day, every single day, to anyone in need and also by providing services, clinics, emergency shelter, and a transitional housing program.
